“We are positive that we can meet the target, that we can have more visitors, more market for this year,” she said.
DATE 2016, an annual flagship event of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) geared towards the development of the agriculture industry in Davao Region is slated on September 22 to 24, 2016 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier, Davao City.
The Mindanao’s golden crops were previously highlighted in Date last 2013 convening 63 exhibitors and 8,000 trade visitors. It generated around P84 million in exhibitor’s sales.
“For this year we will be focusing on financing, processing, marketing and exporting Mindanao’s golden crops — cacao, coffee, coconut, cassava, corn and rice,” John Carlo Tria, program director of DATE 2016, for his part, said.
For this year, a total of 136 exhibitors are expected to join, at present some 50 to 60 exhibitors already confirmed attendance. These are corporate farms, equipment dealers, manufacturers, among others from across the country. Foreign visitors are also expected.
This year’s expo carries the theme: Bridging the Gap: Global Opportunities for Mindanao’s Golden Crops.
DCCCII Executive Vice President (EVP) Sofronio Jucutan, in a previous report said that the expo will bridge between agri-traders, businessmen, and consumers.
For its 18th year, Date will bring in for the first time the Agri-Marketing Conference which will happen on September 23, second day of the three-day event. It will be a parallel event focused on providing the participants on the techniques in supplying local and international market, tapping export markets and financing with partner banks showing special lending windows for farmers.
“It has been said that production and growing (crops) is the easiest in the process, marketing is the key (for growth and development),” Jucutan said adding that production and marketing must come in both ways.
Tria added that logistics and connectivity are among the top bottlenecks in marketing agri products.
The event will bring in industry experts and big companies (foreign and local) who are buying and importing Mindanao’s golden crops. Aside from the conference, breakout sessions and business matching opportunities will also take place.
Tria also said that during the agri-marketing conference, they intend to strengthen the linkage between the government and private players (small and big) in agriculture sector.
“The key to improving the life of the Filipinos and reduce the poverty incidence is to improve agriculture as half of our fellowmen living in poverty are from rural areas who were mostly engaged in agriculture.
The three-day event led by DCCCII is in partnership with Davao’s City Government, Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry, Mindanao Development Authority, Philippine Coconut Authority, and Bureau of Plant and Industry.
